The renewable energy sector has the potential to contribute to the creation and growth of business ventures. A new study offers important insights on entrepreneurial opportunities and their gender dimensions with regard to entrepreneurial uses of electricity.
One such policy entails using small-scale renewable electricity systems to provide access to energy for a significant proportion of SSA’s population. These small-scale systems contribute to employment and enterprise creation. Writing in Energy Research & Social Science, Olufolahan Osunmuyiwa and Helene Ahlborg report how access to energy provided by such small-scale renewable electricity systems in Tanzania changes entrepreneurial dynamics and fosters innovation, but reproduces the structures that determine power and resource allocation in local communities3.
