The 2022 Major League Baseball season may be off to a slow start due to the lockout. But now, because the players and owners have reached an agreement, the season kicked off quickly. With yet another sports league added to the current plethora of options out there, baseball fans in the Pacific Northwest may be looking to find ways in which they can watch the Seattle Mariners and keep up with their favorite team this season.
Root Sports Northwest is the primary broadcast partner for the Seattle Mariners and while there will be a few games broadcast on national outlets, the bulk of the 2022 schedule will be broadcast exclusively on Root. This creates quite a headache for cord-cutters within the Mariners broadcast region (This includes Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Alaska) who may looking to avoid signing up with a cable or satellite provider. Root is not currently available on many of the live TV streaming platforms that cord-cutters have been accustomed to using, including Sling, Hulu + Live, YouTube TV and others.
How can I watch Root Sports Northwest without cable if I live in the Mariners broadcast region?
You can watch the Mariners all season long by signing up for fuboTV (free trial) which costs $69.99/month in order to watch Mariners games streaming online without cable. If you are out of fuboTV free trials, you can also sign up for DirecTV Stream and select the “CHOICE” package (free trial) which costs $89.99/month. There are other more expensive packages you can select that will include local channels and ROOT Sports Northwest, but the “CHOICE” package is the cheapest option that will get you ROOT and allow you to watch the Mariners on a regular basis.
What are fuboTV and DirecTV Stream?
Much like Sling, Hulu + Live and some of the other more well-known cord-cutter platforms you may be familiar with, fuboTV and DirecTV Stream are streaming services that offer live TV and On Demand content without signing up with a cable provider. fuboTV and DirecTV Stream also allow simultaneous access to users with the account login information as it allows subscribers to stream at the same time, which means you can share your login information and split the cost of the service with friends and family members.
How can I watch the games if I live outside the Seattle Mariners broadcast region?
If you live outside of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Alaska, the best option to ensure you get to watch every Mariners game is signing up for MLB.tv, which is Major League Baseball’s direct-to-customer streaming service. That would give you access to every Mariners game and every game played by every team as well. However, games will be blacked out on MLB.tv if they are being shown on a national outlet like ESPN or FOX, or if you live in an area where that game is being broadcast on a regional sports network, like ROOT Sports Northwest.
