Karnataka is likely to experience showers on Monday and Tuesday due to a depression in the Bay of Bengal region, as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
A
fire broke out in Bandipur Tiger Reserve on Sunday afternoon but the authorities brought it under control within hours.
The fire was noticed by watchers in the Moolapur Betta forests of Bandipur range around 2:30 pm. The authorities rushed additional staff and the fire was contained. Officials said some 2.5 acres of forest were burnt, and since it was a ground fire the wildlife was not affected.
Nano urea, the fertilizer based on nanotechnology, has been tested in all the universities and is found to be successful, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said on Monday. Speaking after inaugurating the 12th edition of the ‘Bengaluru India Nano,’ which is themed on ‘NanoTech for Sustainable Future,’ a flagship 3-day event of the state government, Bommai said the ambition of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make available Nano Urea for farmers will become a reality in the near future.

While Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Kodagu, Chikkamagalur and Hassan districts are set to receive rains on Monday, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Gadag, Belagavi, Dharwad, Haveri are to experience it on Tuesday. The IMD has also stated that the rains with thunderstorms are likely in districts that lie in the Western Ghats region., reported PTI.
A 65-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly clicking pictures and recording videos of women in his neighbourhood without their knowledge. The matter came to light when a 31-year-old homemaker approached police alleging that the old man filmed her while she was collecting water from a public tap outside her house.
Mumbai police have arrested gangster Iliyas Bachkana, wanted in at least 37 cases including murder and drug trafficking, from Bengaluru in neighbouring Karnataka, an official said on Monday. Government Railway Police (GRP), Karnataka on Saturday seized 21 kg of ganja worth Rs 4 lakh from a passenger on board the Kakinada Express. The seizure was made after the accused was intercepted at the Bengaluru Cantonment railway station.
Karnataka chief minister Basavaraj Bommai on Sunday said the state government has requested the Centre to approve the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Mekedatu project as early as possible, reported ANI. Speaking to media persons at the Hubballi airport the chief minister said the Union Water Resources Minister has been apprised of the significance of the Mekedatu project. The all-party meeting would be convened to discuss the issue during the ongoing Budget session of the state legislature.

Nearly two years after its collapse during the heavy rains of June 2020, the retaining wall of the Vrishabhavathi River along Mysuru Road near Mylasandra has been rebuilt. The chief engineer for stormwater drains, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), said “In the next three days, we will ready the carriageway leading towards Mysuru. Once traffic police give their clearance, vehicles will be diverted to this part of the carriageway and work on the other side will be taken up.”

Karnataka Police have invoked sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act,1967 against 10 people arrested in connection with the February 20 murder of a Bajrang Dal worker in the Shivamogga region of the state.
As many as 448 stranded students evacuated from conflict-ridden Ukraine under Operation Ganga have reached Karantaka while additional 236 are yet to return, said Karnataka state disaster management authority (SDMA) Commissioner Dr Manoj Rajan.
