to vice president
EASTHAMPTON — bankESB has promoted Michael S. Fitzgerald to vice president, information technology officer, and Alison L. Tower to vice president, compliance and Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) officer.
Fitzgerald, of Chicopee, joined bankESB in 2004 as systems administrator and was promoted to bank officer in 2014 and to assistant vice president, senior information technology officer in 2016. Fitzgerald earned a bachelor’s degree in computer information systems from Westfield State College and is a graduate of the Graduate School of Banking’s Bank Technology Management School.
Tower, of Easthampton, joined bankESB in 2015 as a compliance specialist and was promoted to bank officer in 2017, became compliance and CRA officer in 2018, and was promoted to assistant vice president, compliance and CRA officer in 2019. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Bard College at Simon’s Rock, a juris doctor from Western New England School of Law, and a master’s in business administration from UMass Amherst’s Isenberg School of Management.
NORTHAMPTON — Cooley Dickinson received a $5,000 gift from the Northampton Rotary Club for a $15.5 million capital campaign to renovate, reconfigure and enlarge the hospital’s emergency department.
Gifts to the Transforming Emergency Care: Campaign for the Cooley Dickinson Emergency Department will support additional and better designed spaces and increased privacy for patient care; faster access to computerized tomography (CT) scans; improved coordination of care to allow face-to-face communication between providers and nurses; and more patient rooms.
Cooley Dickinson’s Emergency Department is 40% undersized to meet the community’s needs and cares for many patients who require critical medical attention. The number of patients visiting the department has grown from 17,000 annually in the 1970s to nearly 34,000 in recent years.

HOLYOKE — The Cannabis Education Center at Holyoke Community College will be running three cannabis industry training programs beginning next month.
The CEC’s 12-hour, introductory Cannabis Core course will be held April 2-3, from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. each day over Zoom.
The Cannabis Core program provides an overview of the cannabis industry in Massachusetts and is geared for people looking for general knowledge as they consider a cannabis career.
The Cannabis Core program is a foundational course and a prerequisite for career track courses.
Cannabis Extraction Technician training also begins April 2 and runs through April 23. The course meets weekly on Wednesdays over Zoom from 10-11 a.m., supplemented by self-paced online instruction. In this course, students will learn the basic fundamentals needed to work in a cannabis extraction laboratory.
Cannabis Culinary Assistant training begins April 19. Classes will meet in person on Tuesdays and Wednesdays through May 10 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the HCC MGM Culinary Arts Institute, 164 Race St., Holyoke.
Cannabis culinary assistants are responsible for cooking, baking, and infusing cannabis- or hemp-based products with extracts. The program is a 20-hour introductory course that provides an overview of cooking and baking techniques used to create edibles.
The cost of the Cannabis Core training is $599. Industry specific course training is $799. Scholarships may be available to those who qualify.
