MHP Medical Center provided an update on its guidelines as COVID-19 cases have decreased in recent weeks.
General hospital visiting hours are unrestricted from 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Anyone wishing to stay after visiting hours should receive permission from the charge nurse.
Anyone with colds, sore throats, or any contagious diseases should continue to not visit patients and masks are still required for all patients and visitors while inside the facility. That includes entering and exiting the building.
MHP suggests that two visitors are limited to two per patient at the same time.
In Maternity Care, visitation hours area from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. MHP requests that no more than four visitors be present at the bedside at one time in order to ensure a quiet, comfortable and safe environment.
From 10 p.m. to 8 a.m., visitors may be limited to up to three and are encouraged to visit for shorter periods during those hours.
The hospital limits one designated support person may stay overnight after deliver. During delivery, up to two designated support persons may be there.
Immediately following delivery in the first hour, two designated visitors will be allowed in the patient room, not including the support person.
No one under the age of 12 will allowed in the unit aside from the siblings of the baby and those who are 2-years old or older are required to wear masks at all times.
Thorough hand hygiene is encouraged for all visitors.
All visitors must self-screen for symptoms of illness. Anyone who has symptoms, has had a positive COVID-19 test or has a pending test should not visit.
In the Intensive Care Unit, visitors should be limited to two at a time. MHP asks that visitors go to the nurse’s station first before seeing the patient.
Due to the specialized nature of the unit, nobody under the age of 14 should visit without special permission.
The COVID positivity rate decreased to 3 percent as of last week, and Indiana’s positivity rate also decreased to 2.9 percent.

In the complex culture of the United States, March is dedicated to Irish-American Heritage, Women’s History, the Red Cross, and Frozen Foods. (Lest we be neglectful, March also offers special days for Certified Nurses, Single Parents, and Poultry.)
High gasoline prices worsened by a faraway war are hurting drivers’ wallets. So it’s understandable that, especially in an election year, politicians want to ease the pain at the pump. But cutting or suspending the gas tax – either the state or federal version – is a foolish short-term stunt…
