A very warm, windy and likely wet Monday awaits New Jersey with afternoon and evening thunderstorms potentially packing winds gusts of up to 50 mph that could cause scattered power outages.
Highs will reach the low-to-mid-70s during the day, most of which will be dry, forecasters say. It will be at least 10 degrees cooler along the Jersey Shore.
The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for 16 of the state’s 21 counties from noon Monday until 1 a.m. Tuesday. Winds of 20 to 30 mph will gust from 40 to 50 mph and could briefly reach 60 mph.
The advisory is in effect for all counties except Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Union and Passaic. In those counties, winds should reach around 20 mph and gust into the low 30 mph range.

Rain will likely fall for most of New Jersey sometime between 5 and 7 p.m., with precipitation beginning a bit earlier in western parts of the state, the weather service said in its Monday morning forecast discussion
There’s not much chance of flash flooding, but forecasters can’t completely rule it out. Instead, they expect the typical flooding that comes with heavy rain in urban areas and other places with poor drainage.
Winds will diminish as the rain moves out during the overnight and temperatures fall sharply. By sunrise Tuesday morning, temps will be in the 30s.
Tuesday will be dry and sunny with high temps in the mid 40s to low 50s.

There’s a chance of light snow Tuesday night into Wednesday morning but it won’t amount to much — less than an inch even in areas north of Interstate 78. Other parts of state are more likely to see a mix of rain and snow, the morning forecast discussion said.
High temperature records could be challenged on Monday. The National Weather Service says it will reach 73 degrees in Newark. AccuWeather.com is calling for a high of 74. Newark’s record high for March 8 is 75 degrees, set in 1946. Normal temps on March 7 range from lows of 31 to highs of 48.
On Sunday, daily temperature records were set at Atlantic City International Airport, with a high reading of 71 degrees, and tied with 69 degrees at Newark Liberty International Airport. The high of 68 in Trenton fell short of a daily record.
