New York Jets owner Woody Johnson riled up the team’s fanbase with a subtle hint at possibly bringing back a classic helmet design.
New York Jets fans tend to be an old-school bunch. Despite the team just recently getting a brand-new set of uniforms and logos in 2019, a large chunk of the fanbase has continued to clamor for the team to bring back some of its classic looks – particularly its uniform, helmet, and logo from the 1980s.
Through a social media post on Thursday, team owner Woody Johnson seemed to subtly poke at the fanbase’s collective desire for throwback uniforms. Jets fans on Twitter were sent into a tizzy.
Johnson shared a video of Ken O’Brien’s 43-yard touchdown pass to Wesley Walker in a 1986 game against the Miami Dolphins – an overtime game-winner that sealed a 51-45 Jets victory. Above the video, Johnson wrote the caption, “What about those helmets?”

Jets fans couldn’t get enough of it. As of 4:10 p.m. ET on June 11, Johnson’s tweet has received about 1.95 thousand likes, making it one of his most well-received posts.
Fans made sure to let Johnson know that they want to see the iconic ’80s logo back on the field.

The fan base will go bonkers if you bring that logo back. You will make a ton of money and the fans will be ecstatic. Everyone wins.

It’s easy to see why many fans view the ’80s logo as an upgrade over the Jets’ current helmet logo. In addition to offering a retro feel, it is much sleeker than the wordmark that presently graces the Jets’ helmets, making it a far better fit for the “Jet” vibe.
