Celtic have appointed Mark Lawwell as head of scouting and recruitment.
Mark is the son of Peter Lawwell who was Celtic’s chief executive for 18 years from 2003 and there will be scepticism of the appointment because of the connection.
The irony is that removing his name and its connotations, he has a compelling CV for the head of recruitment role — which has been vacant for 11 months — with ten years of experience in a senior position within one of football's most forward-thinking and well-run organisations.

UEFA have ruled that Russia will not participate in this summer’s Women’s European Championship in England due to the country’s invasion of Ukraine.
Their invasion of Ukraine began on February 24. Today's announcement follows the body’s decision on February 28 to suspend all Russian international teams and clubs from UEFA competitions until further notice.
They will be replaced by Portugal, who were defeated 1-0 on aggregate by Russia in the play-offs last April.

Fulham host Luton Town at 5:15pm this evening.
A win would see them go eight points clear of Bournemouth who have two games — six points — left.
A win for Luton is just as important, however, as they sit fifth and looking to secure their place in the play-offs.

Roberto Firmino won’t feature in Liverpool’s Champions League semi-final second leg against Villarreal – but Divock Origi is back available.
The Brazilian attacker has yet to return to full training after missing the past four matches due to a foot injury. Origi sat out Saturday’s Premier League victory at Newcastle due to illness.
“Bobby is now running which is good,” Klopp said.
“It was not serious but very painful. A strain in the middle foot bone.
“He will travel with us but he won’t be involved in the squad yet. But we hope he will be sooner rather than later.
“We had some issues with a stomach bug but they are all back. No other concerns.”

Manchester City and England goalkeeper Karen Bardsley has announced that she will retire at the end of the season.
Bardsley, 37, has enjoyed a 15-year professional career at clubs including City, Sky Blue FC, and Lincoln.
The American-born keeper made 82 appearances for England between 2005 and 2019, making her England’s second-highest capped goalkeeper of all time behind Peter Shilton.
As sad and strange as it is to be stepping away from something I’ve committed my life to so far, ultimately it’s something I’m really proud of. I can honestly say, hand on heart, that I’ve left no stone unturned and I have no regrets. 1/2 pic.twitter.com/c2SYhZu3Uk
That said, I’ve not done it alone. The unwavering love and support I have felt has seen me through the good and the bad times. I’m unbelievably grateful to everyone who has been a part of my journey. Thank you. pic.twitter.com/5LRkyCjgru
