Nobody likes the idea of homework. Yet, some people still consider it to be an essential part of the educational process that brings positive results. The current situation shows that it be more harmful than it is beneficial. Children suffer from being overloaded with assignments. There can be so many assignments that a student might come to a teacher and say: “I can’t take this anymore. Please, do my homework for me or just give me an F”. Is there any greater good in these struggles? Probably, there isn’t. The 21st century needs new rules in the system of education and homework abolishment should be one of them. The reasons for such a dramatic decision are numerous and here are some of the most convincing ones.
Everything is faster
The time spent in class is enough for them to learn and process the new information they get. Thanks to the development of the digital world, children receive so much information every day that their reactions become faster. There is no need in spending additional hours at home solving math problems and writing multiple papers. They can do all the exercises in class. Most of the homework they get does not bring them any additional knowledge. They get bored and lose motivation.
The world is full of stress
The level of stress children face today is very high. A few decades ago, when they came back home from school, they were isolated from the big world with all its disappointments. Today, they are in contact with that world 24/7. The power of the internet is as big as ever. The last thing the children need coming back home is a long list of assignments they need to do. The state of constant stress will never improve studying progress.
It is too boring
We live in a world of permanent exposure. Anyone can learn about the things you write or say via social media. Doing a presentation or writing a paper only for your teacher seems too insignificant and boring. The students might lose interest in bringing a message to one person only when they can spend the same amount of time and create something that a whole world will see and appreciate.
Lack of family time
If you take a look at today’s most popular forms of communication, texting is a leader. Children are more likely to write a short message than to call someone. Talking to people in person is losing its value. It is crucial to give students that additional time at home to interact with their loved ones. This is something that can bring them positive emotions, warmth, and self-significance. Doing homework alone at your desk deprives you of having this possibility. It is necessary to make room for more important activities that have a positive effect on emotional intellect and healthy interpersonal relationships.
Time to rest
The process of studying should not take all the time in the students’ schedule. They wake up, go to school, attend extracurricular activities, come back from school and start doing homework assignments. The continuity of the educational process is rather threatening. Students have the right to relax and simply change the type of activity. They will finally have the chance to do what they want instead of what they ought to do. There will be no need for them to use a college paper service because such exhausting assignments will cease to exist.
It might be a long process full of debates but it is worth trying. If there is a slight chance that this change is going to make children happier, our government needs to have this experiment. We can always rewind and get back to where we started.
